A Bit About Me
I grew up in Newport News, Virginia. Most of my family still lives in the Tidewater area, and a part of me will always call sunsets over the James River home.
After high school I attended James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. During my time at JMU I began to pursue my calling as a minister through YoungLife. After college I attended McAfee School of Theology (Mercer University) in Atlanta, Georgia. During my 4 years in Atlanta, I had my first job as a minister at Wieuca Road Baptist Church. At Wieuca, I taught Sunday school, led mission trips, planned worship services, preached, baptized, served as staff liaisons to committees, and managed the youth and missions budget. It was a transformative experience, where I got my first taste of working in a congregation.
After graduating seminary, Jordan and I moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where I served as the Associate Pastor of Community Engagement & Students. I cherished my time at Kirkwood Baptist Church where I got to work with wonderful staff and volunteers. As an associate pastor I helped plan worship, preach, plan youth trips and fundraisers, created my own curriculums, sat on multiple committees as staff liaison, and managed staff members and volunteers. I was and still am grateful for my years of service at KBC where I was able to put my gifts into practice for the good of the church.
I am now located in Santa Rosa, California, where I officiate weddings and funerals, offer consulting and coaching for ministers, and work for a church in Sonoma.
Each of these aspects of my work offer me unique joys. Through officiating weddings, I am able to help couples have a memorable and meaningful ceremony, and set them up for a healthy marriage through marriage counseling. I am passionate about love and how a deep love and connection with another person can make each of them a better person.
I am equally passionate about helping people through the grieving process after a death. It can be extremely hard to process and deal with the death of someone close to you, but I am always honored to provide some words, even if they are not perfect, about a life lived. There is hope to be found in death, as well as some kind of understanding of why we are here and what this thing called life means.
I am especially passionate about helping ministers be great at their jobs. In my consulting work, I like to brainstorm new ideas and approach problems from different angles. One of my favorite things is to encourage ministers and help give them confidence in their own capacities.
When I am not working, I love to explore Redwood Forests and enjoy making youtube videos of my surf trips.
